Reliable transformer operation depends on consistent testing methods, informed maintenance practices, and the expertise behind them. On World Standards Day, MVA recognizes the people who contribute to the technical standards that support our industry—including our own Scott Reed and Todd Felton.

Their involvement brings practical experience from transformer diagnostics, insulating fluid analysis, and equipment maintenance into the standards development process. For MVA customers, that expertise also supports a clear goal: making better maintenance decisions that help extend transformer life and reduce the risk of unplanned outages.

Scott Reed: Advancing Transformer Maintenance Standards

MVA CEO Scott Reed serves as Vice Chairman of the IEEE Transformers Committee and previously served as Chairman of the IEEE Insulating Fluids Subcommittee. As a Senior Member of IEEE, he contributes to the development of industry guidance for maintaining transformers and managing insulating liquids.

Scott’s leadership includes serving as:

These contributions reflect his commitment to improving transformer maintenance practices and supporting the reliability of critical electrical infrastructure. Scott also received the 2026 NETA Alliance Partner Recognition Award for Technical Expertise, Leadership, and Service.

Todd Felton: Supporting Standards for Insulating Fluids and Gases

Todd Felton, MVA’s Vice President of Laboratory Services, is a member of ASTM International’s D27 Committee on Electrical Insulating Fluids and Gases and serves as Chair of its D27.02 Subcommittee on Gases and Non-Mineral Oil Liquids.

Through these roles, Todd contributes to standards work involving materials that play an essential part in electrical insulation and transformer operation. His participation connects MVA’s laboratory expertise with the broader industry’s efforts to develop consistent methods for evaluating insulating fluids and gases.

At MVA, Todd also helps customers develop diagnostic testing programs and maintenance strategies that support the reliability and longevity of their transformer assets.

Industry Knowledge That Supports Your Maintenance Decisions

Standards provide a common foundation for testing, evaluating, and maintaining electrical equipment. Applying that knowledge to an individual transformer requires experienced professionals who can consider diagnostic results, equipment history, operating conditions, and maintenance needs together.

MVA brings that perspective to utilities, municipalities, electric cooperatives, and industrial facilities. Our laboratory and field services teams help customers understand transformer condition, investigate developing concerns, and plan appropriate next steps.

On World Standards Day, we recognize Scott, Todd, and the professionals across our industry who dedicate their expertise to developing these essential resources. Their contributions help strengthen the practices that keep critical power equipment operating reliably.
