A transformer oil sample can reveal important information about an asset’s condition. When it reaches MVA Diagnostics’ state-of-the-art transformer oil testing laboratory, it moves through a connected process of sample scanning, in-house testing, diagnostic review, and reporting.
That process begins before the sample is shipped. MVA’s XQOhm® paperless sampling app allows technicians to identify the transformer, scan the sample, record field information, and select the tests they need. When the sample arrives at our lab, that digital information is ready to support the next steps.
1. We Scan the Sample When It Arrives
Our receiving team scans each sample using MVA’s app technology. The scan connects the container to the customer, transformer, sampling information, and requested tests already submitted through XQOhm®. This makes receiving easier and keeps the sample tied to the correct asset without relying on handwritten forms or manually re-entering field information.
Customers can also use the MVA Dashboard to see when their samples have reached the lab. For organizations managing many transformers or collecting samples across multiple locations, that visibility helps keep a sampling program organized.
2. We Perform the Testing In House
After the sample is received, our laboratory performs the requested transformer oil tests. These may include dissolved gas analysis (DGA), moisture in oil, dielectric strength, acidity, interfacial tension, furan analysis, and other tests selected for the asset.
MVA performs its laboratory testing in house. Our state-of-the-art lab combines advanced analytical instrumentation with proven methods and quality control procedures throughout sample handling, testing, and reporting. Each test provides a different piece of information about the insulating fluid, paper insulation, or potential conditions developing inside the transformer.
3. Chemists and Transformer Oil Experts Review the Results
Laboratory data is only part of the answer. MVA’s diagnostic team is made up of chemists and transformer oil experts who review the results and consider what they mean for the equipment. They evaluate the findings alongside available asset information, previous test results, and relevant operating history.
Looking at results over time can be especially valuable. A single test provides a snapshot; historical results can show whether a condition is stable or changing. Our team uses that context to identify concerns and provide recommendations supported by the data. If the results do not indicate a need for corrective action, we will tell you that, too.
4. Customers Can Read Results by Email, in the Dashboard, or in the App
Once testing and diagnostic review are complete, customers receive their results by email and can read them there. Reports are also available in the MVA Dashboard, where customers can review diagnostic recommendations, historical test data, and asset information in one place.
Results can be accessed in the XQOhm® app as well. A technician in the field can look up a transformer and review its current report or previous results without returning to a desk. Whether a customer prefers email, the Dashboard, or the app, the information is available where it is most useful.
5. The Findings Help Guide the Next Step
The purpose of transformer oil testing is to help customers make informed maintenance decisions. Depending on the results, MVA’s diagnostic team may recommend continued routine monitoring, a follow-up sample, additional testing, or a closer investigation of a developing concern.
From sample collection to recommendations, MVA keeps the process connected. XQOhm® makes sampling and sample identification easier, our state-of-the-art lab performs in-house testing, and our chemists and transformer oil experts turn the findings into practical guidance. Customers can then access their results by email, through the Dashboard, or in the app.
