Home » Oxidation Inhibitor Testing
Oxidation inhibitor testing measures the concentration of antioxidant additives in transformer oil. These inhibitors help slow the oxidation process that occurs when oil is exposed to oxygen, heat, moisture and other contaminants over time.
As transformer oil oxidizes, it can form acids, sludge and other byproducts that may reduce the oil’s insulating and cooling capabilities. Maintaining an appropriate inhibitor concentration helps protect the oil, slow deterioration and support reliable transformer operation.
Testing can determine whether inhibitor levels remain within an appropriate range or have declined due to aging and service conditions. Trending these results over time can help maintenance teams evaluate oil condition and determine whether inhibitor replenishment, oil treatment or additional testing may be needed.
MVA provides oxidation inhibitor testing as part of a comprehensive transformer oil diagnostics program. Our laboratory experts can review the results alongside acidity, interfacial tension, moisture and other fluid-quality tests to provide a clearer understanding of oil condition and informed maintenance recommendations.
