When a transformer oil test informs a maintenance decision, confidence in the laboratory’s results matters. Since 2015, MVA has participated in ASTM International’s proficiency testing programs for dissolved gas analysis (DGA) and insulating fluid quality (IFQ). This ongoing participation is one way we assess and strengthen the quality of our in-house testing.
What Is Interlaboratory Proficiency Testing?
In a proficiency testing program, participating laboratories test samples provided through the program and submit their results for statistical comparison with results from other laboratories. The comparison gives each lab a way to evaluate its performance, investigate differences, and identify opportunities to improve its testing process. ASTM offers programs specifically for DGA and insulating fluid quality testing.
Why It Matters for Transformer Owners
DGA helps identify gases in insulating oil that can provide clues about developing conditions inside a transformer. Fluid quality tests help assess properties of the oil that are relevant to its condition and performance. Reliable results give asset owners a stronger foundation for tracking changes over time, deciding when further investigation is needed, and planning maintenance.
By participating in ASTM proficiency testing since 2015, MVA has made external comparison a continuing part of its laboratory quality practices. Our diagnostic team of chemists and transformer oil experts pairs test results with experienced interpretation, helping customers understand what the findings may mean for their equipment.
Testing Results You Can Put to Work
